Apple Versus Google in Hearts and Minds

Apple and Google have been bitter rivals for profits and market share, but is Google beating Apple in the battle for hearts and minds? CNet thinks that that might very well be the case.'s not as if Apple doesn't have a considerable residue of emotional goodwill, built by years of excellent human-focused design and advertising.

But Google seems very determined to wrest warm feelings from Apple, and to some degree it's winning. Apple has seemed, at times, to represent the big and the bad, while Google poses as your best, most loyal and heartfelt friend.

There's reality distortion for you.

I have to disagree with the take presented by CNet on this. Google has caused itself enormous amounts of damage with its privacy violations and endless zeal to obtain user information in order to better target advertising to increase profits. This has caused a real erosion in the "do no evil" image Google used to have with users.

Don't get me wrong, Apple is no saint either. But Apple seems to retain an enormous amount of goodwill among its customers, and I don't see Google doing anything that will be successful in winning over those people.

AppleInsider iPad Air Review

AppleInsider has a full review of the new iPad Air.

It's hard to find flaws with the iPad Air. If the iPad mini's 7.9-inch screen is a little too cramped for you, and you prefer the larger display of a full-size tablet, the iPad Air is an easy recommendation.

The cameras on the iPad Air are acceptable in a pinch but could see improvements. But really, who's using their tablet for high-quality pictures?

It's also a mild disappointment that the iPad Air doesn't include the Touch ID fingerprint sensor Apple introduced with the iPhone 5s in September. Though, admittedly, this will be a stronger feature on the iPad for if and when Apple adds multi-user support to its iOS platform.

This is the best full-size tablet on the market today, and it easily trumps all of Apple's previous efforts to date. Anyone in the market for a tablet can buy an iPad Air with confidence. This is the new standard.

I got my iPad Air this weekend and so far I'm loving it. It's a huge upgrade from my iPad 3. I love the lighter weight and smaller size. It's much more pleasant to use than the iPad 3, and it's way faster. I've been running lots of games, as well as non-game apps and everything is smokin' fast!

Woz: Google and Apple Should Be Partners

The BBC has an interview with Steve Wozniak and Woz had some thoughts to share about Google and Apple.

"I wish to God that Apple and Google were partners in the future."

"I don't know. If I were there, it would be pretty likely. I'm probably wrong, there's probably an awful lot I don't know about the business concerns and one thing you've got to remember is a company has always got to make money," says Wozniak.

Say what you will about Woz, the guy clearly has a good heart. But it's no wonder that Steve Jobs ran the business side of Apple. Woz would have gotten eaten alive if he'd been in charge.
