MATE 1.8 has been released, here's how you can install it in Linux Mint 14.
1. Open a terminal window.
2. Type in the following commands then hit Enter after each.
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://repo.mate-desktop.org/ubuntu quantal main"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install mate-archive-keyring
sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment
MATE 1.8 comes with support for window snapping/side-by-side tiling to the window manager, support for both Metacity and Marco windows managers, IEC units support for Caja, and a lot of bug fixes.More at Linux G
