Access Recovery Mode on your Mac

How to access your Mac's Recovery Mode and troubleshooting utilities

Here's how you can access Recovery Mode on your Mac. Recovery Mode will let you use troubleshooting utilities to fix problems and you can even reinstall your Mac's operating system.

1. Reboot your Mac.

2. Press and hold the Command+R keys when your Mac reboots.

3. You'll see the OS X utilities menu popup.

4. You'll have the following options:

Restore from a Time Machine backup

Reinstall OS X

Get help online

Disk utility

Each of these options can help you fix your Mac's problems or do a complete reinstall of OS X. Recovery Mode is something that all Mac owners should know about in case they need it at some point.
