Of course the number of configurations and the purposes behind those configurations are many. Figure that most organizations using cloud computing will have some type of hybrid deployment, many of which will be downright complex.

Anyone who's been in IT for any length of time will realize nothing's new here: It's just leveraging our IT assets in distributed and federated ways. Now we have cloud computing architectural options to add to the mix.
