Postini taps VeriSign for new CEO

Quentin Gallivan to take over Nov. 28.

E-mail security vendor Postini Inc. has a new chief executive. On Tuesday the San Carlos, California, company announced that it has hired Quentin Gallivan as president and chief executive officer (CEO), effective Nov. 28.

Gallivan had previously served as executive vice president of worldwide sales and services with VeriSign Inc., a company he joined in 1997. Prior to that, he held management positions at Netscape and GE Information Services, Postini said in a statement.

He fills a position that has been vacant since Shinya Akamine stepped down as the company's CEO in 2004. Since that time Postini has been run by a group of three senior executives who comprise its Office of the President. Akamine remained with the company as chairman of Postini's board of directors.

Gallivan will also serve on Postini’s board, the company said.
