Sand/DNA Digs Into Compressed Data

Sand Technology this week updated its DNA (Dynamic Nearline Architecture) data management technology, which compresses data to about 10 percent of its original size and allows the stored data to be searched without being decompressed. Sand is integrating its Sand/DNA Analytics analytic data repository with its Sand/DNA Access storage archival product, and adding new features to both offerings. The integration allows end-users to pull information transparently from DNA Access and load it into DNA Analytics using standard business intelligence tools. This removes much of the time spent on data modeling, according to Sand officials. Sand also introduced Sand/DNA for SAP Business Warehouse, which allows users to move, store, and access highly compressed data from a nearline data repository.

Vontu next month will ship Version 6.0 of its data loss prevention product. The new edition extends monitoring and blocking to FTP transmissions and HTTPS streams, the latter via integration with Blue Coat’s Web proxy server appliance. Vontu 6.0 also brings enforcement to Vontu Discover (infoworld.com/3874), allowing you to quarantine or delete automatically sensitive files found on servers and desktop systems, and it leverages a new detection technique and directory information to enable fine-tuning of policies for specific groups of employees. Vontu 6.0 will be generally available March 31. Pricing starts at $100,000.
