EMC Pumps Up Storage Software
EMC has beefed up its NAS software offerings, including more extensive support for iSCSI storage networking. The company recently introduced EMC Multi-Path File System for iSCSI and EMC Celerra Replicator for iSCSI, as well as virtual provisioning capabilities for the Celerra NAS and new capabilities in the EMC Rainfinity Global File Virtualization platform. The new file system aims to improve file sharing and application performance over IP networks, while the virtual provisioning software allows logical sizes of file systems and iSCSI LUNs to exceed physical storage capacity. The Rainfinity platform adds synchronous replication over IP networks and global namespace management.

Fortify Fortifies Production Apps
Supplementing its Fortify Source Code Analysis Suite that automates security analysis of C, C++, C#, Java, JSP, and SQL code during the development cycle, Fortify Software has released Fortify Application Defense, software that guards key functions of business apps during runtime. The software creates a hardened version of an application executable, shielding the deployed application against code-level security flaws and using multiple detection algorithms to identify security events. In addition to monitoring and reporting on these events, admins can configure challenge responses and other counter-measures.

Zenprise Doctors Exchange for Small Shops
Zenprise has released an edition of its monitoring and diagnostics software for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 aimed at companies with fewer than 1,000 employees. Like Zenprise for enterprises, Zenprise SMB analyzes operational data from Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, and other components of the messaging environment to identify problems, determine root causes, and walk administrators through the fix. Unlike the enterprise product, it lacks a reporting module and will not support clusters. Pricing starts at $2,500 per year for 50 employees or less.
