No more Katmai.

Microsoft goes RTM with SQL Server 2008.

Microsoft announced today that they were going RTM(Release To Manufacture) with SQL Server 2008. I suppose this means I officially can't call it Katmai anymore (though I'm likely to do so because it's just less to type).

This 3yrs has flown by and it doesn't seem like there should be another version coming out so soon. Don't get me wrong though, I think there are some pretty nifty features in this version so it's well worth the upgrade.

So when will SQL2K8 go into General Availability(GA)? My observations are that it's typically about 1-2wks after RTM. So my guess would be to look for it sometime in the next couple weeks. If they tell me when they go GA then I'll be sure to let you know.

Here's the press release if you want more details.

I've got some tutorials of some of the more high level features if you want to check them out.
