Less than 48 hours ago, I wrote a post questioning whether or not AT&T and Apple were getting along since AT&T's network apparently can't support the iPhone. This was backed up by the fact that MMS won't be supported in the United States until "later this summer," and there was no mention of whether tethering would ever be supported. So while 22 countries will get these features immediately, the United States will not because of AT&T.
In the 48 hours since I wrote that post, things have been ... odd. I had ordered an iPhone 3G S from the Apple store, with every page emblazoned with "Delivers by June 19th." Then, at 8pm last night I get this e-mail from Apple:

Thank you for your recent iPhone 3G S purchase at the Apple Online Store.
Due to a technical error, we communicated an incorrect delivery date.We want to assure you that your iPhone 3G S will deliver on June 19th. You can
track the status of your order at <www.apple.com/orderstatus>.
We appreciate your business, and apologize for any inconvenience.Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Team
Since they reassure me that the phone will be delivered by June 19 in this very e-mail, I'm not entirely certain what they mean by "incorrect delivery date." That is, until I check the order status and find that the phone will be shipped on the 19th, and delivered by the 23rd. I had ordered a few other items as well as the 3G S and had selected two-day shipping, so I don't even get that, since the 19th is a Friday.
Because of my travel plans, the delay is annoying, but I'll survive. However, why bother sending me a confirmation of the wrong date in the first place?
Also, since that post hit, I've been seeing 12-hour-plus delays in e-mail to SMS messaging, which I use for automated notifications from Nagios. This meant that a barrage of notifications from a particular event that occurred yesterday afternoon took 12 hours to arrive on my phone -- between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. My original iPhone also suddenly started displaying the critically low battery notification every time I hit the home button last night, regardless of actual charge -- then hitting it again brings it back to the home screen.
Purely coincidental, I'm sure. Frankly, if AT&T had the level of competence and rapid response time required to actually engineer a scenario like this, their network would surely be far better than it is, right?
