Brightcove announced on Monday Brightcove Experience for HTML5, a framework for publishing interactive and ad-supported Web videos for HTML5-compatible devices, including Apple's iPad and iPhone.
The framework is being offered free of charge to customers of the Brightcove online video platform. Brightcove Experience for HTML 5 supports intelligent device detection, playlist rendering and playback of H.264-encoded video content.

"The Brightcove Experience for HTML5 fills the gap between the current playback capabilities of the emerging standard and what our customers need to operate successful online video businesses," said Jeremy Allaire, chairman and CEO of Brightcove, in a statement released by the company.
HTML5 is considered an up-and-coming industry-standard specification for multimedia on the Web and could challenge proprietary technologies such as Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe Flash for dominance.
Customers already are using Brightcove Experience for HTML5 to build iPad-ready Web sites, Brightcove said. The New York Times and Time are among the users, Brightcove said.
Shipping April 3, the iPad is Apple's upcoming tablet device based on popular iPhone technology. Plans call for expanding Brightcove Experience for HTML5 to include support for customization and branding of the player environment, advertising, analytics, social sharing, and other platforms.
