Project Description: When ILM began producing Star Wars Episode 3 it looked for a storage system that could handle the increased performance and rendering requirements that the film required.
It found a solution in NetApp’s global namespace technology. During this time, ILM also moved from San Rafael to San Francisco's
Presidio, and NetApp enabled ILM to cluster its existing storage in San Rafael to its new NetApp storage in San Francisco
under a single global namespace -- completely moving the datacenter's storage and rendering infrastructure while in heavy
production without a single moment of downtime. With the new facility came a tenfold increase in network bandwidth, so the
separate storage clusters were combined in the Presidio, which was easily able to handle the massive jump in throughput.
