Motorola gained market share in mobile phone sales against world leader Nokia during the first two quarters of this year,
said market researcher DisplaySearch.
The market research company, which is owned by NPD Group, made a ranking for the first and second quarters of this year based
on sales of screens used in mobile phone displays.
"Motorola's success with both the Razr and low-end phones has enabled it to cut into Nokia's lead," said DisplaySearch, in a report on Tuesday.
The U.S. handset maker will take a 20.4 percent share of the global handset market in the April through June quarter, compared
to 31.4 percent for Nokia, DisplaySearch said. The figures represent a marked improvement for Motorola. In the first quarter,
the company held only 19 percent of the market, compared to 32.9 percent for Nokia.
Samsung Electronics, the third biggest mobile phone maker, has lost market share during the first half of the year, according
to DisplaySearch, while BenQ Mobile continues to drop share as it turns around its business after the purchase of Siemens' handset division last year.
