Looking to strengthen its hand in telecommunications infrastructure software, Oracle announced Wednesday it has agreed to
buy HotSip, a vendor of communications software based in Stockholm.
HotSip sells the HotSip M2CE, a carrier-grade application server for SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and J2EE (Java 2, Enterprise
Edition). SIP is emerging as a common protocol to link many forms of communication on IP (Internet Protocol) networks. The
M2CE can be used as a platform for HotSip IP telephony, presence, messaging and conferencing applications. HotSip also offers
a service creation environment for customizing existing applications and adding new ones to the M2CE, according to the company's
Web site.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Oracle, in Redwood Shores, California, recently closed its approximately $5.85 billion acquisition of Siebel Systems and on Tuesday announced its purchase of open-source database vendor SleepyCat Software.
