Sun heats up Java EnterpriseSystem with Version 3
Sun Microsystems late last month updated its JES (Java Enterprise System). The latest version, JES 3, features an upgraded
application server; support for HP-UX and Windows; and licenses for Sun’s Identity Manager, N1 Grid Service Provisioning System,
Portal Server Mobile Access, and Java Studio Enterprise products. Also new to Release 3 is the Enterprise Edition of Sun’s
application server, which supports the latest version of the J2EE specification, Version 1.4, as well as some features for
improving application availability. JES Release 2 came with the standard-edition application server. Sun increased the price
of the JES suite to $140 per employee. This includes the additional products, although they are not integrated into the suite
but offered separately.

Novell ships ZenWorks Asset Management
Filling out its ZenWorks systems management product line, Novell today will ship ZenWorks Asset Management, a set of integrated
tools designed to discover and track hardware and software assets in the enterprise. ZenWorks Asset Management discovers and
reports on devices including desktops, laptops, servers, routers, and switches, as well as software. Also included is a software
compliance component and software usage reporting capabilities. ZenWorks Asset Management is priced at $33 per device or user.

Bluesocket tightens WLANs
Bluesocket last week introduced its BlueView Management System, a centralized management system for enterprise WLANs. BlueView
contains configuration, policy-enforcement, and monitoring capabilities to facilitate provisioning and management of local
and remote multisite WLAN deployments. Network administrators can use the system to autodiscover and manage all Bluesocket
Wireless Gateways and provide real-time performance monitoring, diagnostics, detailed network information, and event/alarm
notification. The BlueView Management System is currently available starting at $9,995.

NextWeb to launch VoIP via wireless
NextWeb will roll out a service that delivers VoIP via wireless this month. The offering will include call waiting, voice
mail, caller ID, and call forwarding. The service includes a Call Manager Web portal for personal phone lists and Outlook
integration, as well as Web-based “click-to-call.” NextWeb’s service will be available via a partnership with VoIP equipment
provider CommPartners.
