Fujitsu Joins Itanium Game
Fujitsu has slated for this week the launch of a new line of multiprocessor servers based on Intel’s Itanium 2 processor. The new PrimeQuest machines will be Fujitsu’s first high-end Itanium servers. Fujitsu’s first two PrimeQuest systems will be the PrimeQuest 480, a 32-processor system that will ship with as much as 1TB of memory, and the PrimeQuest 440, which will house as many as 16 processors and 512GB of memory. Both systems will initially ship with the 1.6GHz and 1.5GHz versions of Intel’s “Madison 9M” Itanium 2 processor. Fujitsu’s servers will be breakable into as many as 16 partitions. Each server will also sport high-availability features and a “crossbar-type” interconnect to link processors.

Iomega Ramps Up NAS Line
Iomega this month will begin shipping a new line of storage servers for workgroups, remote offices, and SMBs. The NAS 300r Series is available in three models ranging from 320GB to 500GB. Iomega’s new lineup includes Automatic Backup Pro, a 7,200-rpm SATA hard disk, and a 2.8GHz Intel Celeron. Pricing starts at $1,999.

Ektron Unveils DMS400
Ektron last month introduced the DMS400, a document-management system built on Microsoft's .Net framework. DMS400 lets users create and manage Office files, PDFs, images, audio and video files. The system also packs collaboration tools for sharing documents and content-related projects, general and business-process-specific automation tools, reporting tools, and search capabilities.

Compuware Updates Performance Testing Suite
Compuware late last month upgraded both editions of QACenter, its performance-testing suite. The latest iteration of QACenter Enterprise Edition includes enhancements to the TestPartner testing solution, notably the capability to test mission-critical applications in any language. In QACenter Performance Edition, the company boosted QALoad   by injecting support for Oracle and SAP applications.

Xirrus Adds Switch Into Wi-Fi Device
Xirrus last week launched itself into the Wi-Fi fracas. In so doing, the company also unveiled Wireless LAN Array, a device that houses WLAN switch functions and 16 integrated access points, and delivers Gigabit Ethernet-speed RF bandwidth. Wireless LAN Array also features a high-gain “directionalized” antenna system and tri-mode 802.11a/b/g support for mobile devices.
