I tested each of these XML firewall appliances in the same way at KeyLabs in Lindon, Utah. The first task in installing the
appliances is to set up the network interfaces. The Reactivity appliance runs on top of a modified Linux distribution and
is set up using the standard Linux network configuration. The DataPower XS40 and Forum Sentry must be configured initially
using a serial port and the command-line interface.
Once the network was set up, I used the various interfaces to configure each box to talk to several different back-end Web
services. After connecting to these services through the firewall, I set up keys and certificates in the device and tested
the ability of the firewalls to sign documents, verify signatures, and encrypt XML elements. I also tested transformations,
service virtualization, and other product features.
