XOsoft debuts Data Rewinder

Dubbed Data Rewinder, the software is designed to eliminate the need for replicating data at periodic intervals by tracking databases via kernel level enhancements to Windows, Solaris, and Linux environments. Leonid Shtilman, CEO and chairman of XOsoft, explains that the software is targeted to database administrators working with database-dependent applications. "It works like the 'control z' command in Microsoft Word," says Shtilman. "If corruption is detected, you can just go back to the point it is OK."

Database actions are captured in real time in a meta-database, he said. Data Rewinder runs on the same server as the database, but not on the database itself, rendering the application usable in the event of an error preventing access to the database.

In conjunction with the introduction of Data Rewinder, XOsoft will also unveil version 3.5 of its WANSynch software. WANSynch allows enterprises to back up data continuously across distance in real time while the servers still function. The product is coupled with Data Rewinder in order to ensure the remote copy's validity. Shtilman added the company is looking to OEM the technology to software vendors of applications based on databases.

Meanwhile, Oceanport, N.J.-based CommVault Systems has rolled out QiNetix QNet. The management tool lets storage administrators capture data from primary and secondary storage devices and manage the components that make up its QiNetix software, which includes its backup product, Galaxy.
