Framingham, Mass. -- EMC announced last week that it will develop network-attached storage (NAS) devices for enterprise departments
and workgroups that use Microsoft Corp. Windows-powered NAS technology.
The upcoming EMC NetWin 200 combines Microsoft's embedded operating system with EMC Clariion CX storage. It will be the new low-end product for EMC and can be managed from either Windows or EMC'sControlCenter console.
Windows Power NAS appliances have quickly gained ground in customer implementations. IDC estimates that in 2002 more than
32 percent of NAS devices had Microsoft technology embedded in them.
The NetWin 200 can be fully managed from either a Windows or EMC ControlCenter environment. It also supports EMC'sOnCourse software, which automates the movement of files and data across geographically dispersed locations.
The companies also promised to integrate Windows compatibility into the rest of EMC's NAS products.
The EMC NetWin 200 is expected to be available in the third quarter of this year, starting at $50,000.
