HOPING TO CAPITALIZE on Washington's massive IT restructuring project, SeeBeyond this week unveiled its integration play
aimed at the federal IT market.
Redwood Shores, Calif.-based SeeBeyond announced Real-Time Information Network for Government (RING), a government-tailored
solution designed to orchestrate application information flow across systems. RING runs on top of SeeBeyond's eGate Integrator
platform for application integration, company officials said.
"Specific to government organizations, SeeBeyond is dedicated to supporting areas of mission-critical transformation, to
facilitate the seamless flow of information in a secure manner," said Sam Maccherola, vice president of public sector for
SeeBeyond.
In the year since Sept. 11, federal officials have embarked on a massive IT initiative aimed at creating a single federal
enterprise architecture that spans every conceivable government agency. Central to the effort is the alignment and automation
business processes and the integration of applications, according to Norman Lorentz, CTO of the federal Office of Management
& Budget (OMB), which is spearheading the project.
Once the architecture is solidified, Lorentz has said his team will seek private-sector technology solutions on an outsourced
basis, including integration platforms.
SeeBeyond's first RING implementation is targeted at supply-chain integration and management; others to follow will focus
on applications such as human resources, finance, logistics, and procurement, according to SeeBeyond officials.
Among the features in the supply-chain implementation of RING are out-of-the-box connectivity to third-party applications
and legacy systems; trading partner profile management through a Web-based interface; process-driven integration; scalability
to support multiple trading partners and high-volume transaction rates; and security and privacy provisions.
