IDG's InfoWorld Outlines Ten Steps to Service-Oriented Architecture
Print and Online Companion to SOA Executive Forum Event on Enabling Business Agility

November 7, 2005 -- San Francisco, CA -- IDG's InfoWorld, the leading integrated media brand for strategic technology decision-making, today released a service-oriented architecture-themed issue of its weekly print publication. The November 7 issue of InfoWorld covers key themes discussed at the SOA Executive Forum event, taking place this week (November 7-8) at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York. The issue contains a feature on "10 Steps to SOA," as well as case studies from British American Tobacco, Sabre Holdings, Thomson Prometric, and Verizon. These articles are available online at: http://www.infoworld.com/reports/45SRsoa.html.

InfoWorld's November 7 issue contains advertising from all SOA Executive Forum sponsors. BEA Systems is the cornerstone sponsor of the event. HP, IBM, Intel, and SOA Leaders (AmberPoint, Parasoft, Reactivity, Sonic Software, Systinet, and ThoughtWorks) are platinum sponsors. Gold-level sponsors include Cisco Systems, Infravio, InterSystems, Layer 7 Technologies, and SOA Software.

In "10 Steps to SOA", co-written by Eric Knorr and Oliver Rist, recommended actions leading to an effective SOA implementation include:
Step 1: Think big, start small
Step 2: Go to the whiteboard
Step 3: Survey your surroundings
Step 4: Connect your first services
Step 5: Choose and deploy a registry or repository
Step 6: Start tackling governance
Step 7: Lay your security plans
Step 8: Build out your messaging infrastructure
Step 9: Deploy service management
Step 10: Consider orchestration

"The potential benefits of reduced IT costs and greater business agility have spurred many organizations to start down the path to SOA, to the point where most large enterprises now have some sort of SOA initiative under way," said Eric Knorr, InfoWorld's executive editor at large. "One reason for that extraordinary traction: SOA may ultimately have a transformative effect on the entire enterprise, but in contrast to other 'big bang' endeavors, most of the applications and infrastructure youÕve already deployed can remain in place."

About SOA Executive Forum
InfoWorld's SOA Executive Forum events provide an arena for peers and industry experts to come together and develop informed strategies that ensure successful SOA implementations. The SOA model represents the biggest change in enterprise IT since the Internet. When applications are treated as services, a transformation in technical approach, IT workflow, and business planning is required. Cost to attend InfoWorld's SOA Executive Forum is $2395, with InfoWorld subscriber and other discounts available. Visit www.soaexecutiveforum.com for more information.

A winning SOA strategy, resulting in cost savings and a highly flexible application infrastructure, hinges on reliable information from leading technologists and early adopters who have already begun to reap the benefits.
