IDG's InfoWorld.com Expands Topic-Focused Advertising Opportunities
Taxonomy Upgrade Offers Opportunity to Focus Messages By 13 Key Areas

March 24, 2004 Ð San Francisco, CA Ð InfoWorld.com announced the expansion of the site's topic-focused TechIndexes, giving vendors an opportunity to contextually target key technology buyers through multi-level advertising techniques. These include: targeted offers through its integrated product guide, lead generation through InfoWorldÕs Special Reports, advertising within relevant RSS feeds, along with traditional banner advertising across a variety of sizes and formats.

Each TechIndex focuses the user experience on key information needed for the evaluation and selection of relevant technologies, products, and solutions. The TechIndex is designed to provide senior technology buyers all of the information they need in a relevant way. Supplied tools include access to InfoWorld features and analyses, special reports PDF packages, updated topic-focused news, and access to InfoWorld Test Center reviews via the product guide. Targeted RSS feeds by TechIndex topic, as well as focused news are also available.

InfoWorld TechIndex areas include application development, applications, business, data management, hardware, networking, platforms, security, standards, storage, telecommunications, Web services, and wireless. InfoWorld content has been indexed across more than 200 technology categories presented in over 350 combinations so that users can get to the information that they need in a way that makes sense for them.

InfoWorld's sharp focus on the evaluation and selection of information technologies has driven high levels of reader interaction, as well as advertiser demand to connect with this influential audience. The enhanced TechIndexes mark InfoWorld.comÕs third significant enhancement since winning two Ozzie awards from Folio: Magazine in November 2003 for best site design. Earlier this year InfoWorld.com expanded its white paper library and product reviews guides.

"A recent survey of InfoWorld's subscriber base indicated that almost 90% of InfoWorld.com visitors rate tests, reviews, and opinions of specific vendors as 'important' or 'very important' to helping them achieve their objectives," said Matt McAlister, vice president and general manager of the site. "InfoWorld.com's enhanced TechIndexes is one component of an ongoing strategic initiative to provide the types of purchase information buyers need to make informed decisions. We are positioning InfoWorld.com as the premier enterprise IT product research resource. Look for more innovations from InfoWorld.com." "While topic-focused content is not new," added Paul Calento, vice president of marketing, "most of the b-to-b sites do not have enough content and valuable information to help in enterprise-class decision-making. While product news and testing analysis is commonplace in the consumer sector, there are very few media brands with the capabilities to test enterprise-class products. The TechIndex initiative builds on InfoWorld.com's unparalleled strength in providing unique and technical reviews in 13 key areas."
