Testing was primarily confined to functional testing because both devices act as routers and are easily capable of passing the several 10/100Mbps streams necessary at wire speed.
Using the Shunra Storm 3.0 WAN simulator, from Shunra Software, I created simulated frame relay, DSL, and T-1 connections. Shunra Storm was able to impair each connection, simulating high levels of traffic, network storms, and link failures. Storm uses Microsoft Visio to create diagrams of the network to be simulated, and then links the objects in the diagram as specified to create a simulated WAN.
With both devices, setting up the various WAN links was not difficult, and each device detected failed links and rerouted traffic as necessary.
