I installed the test software on HP ProLiant DL360 servers following the instructions provided in each product’s documentation. The servers were running Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. The manager software for each was installed on a Compaq EVO workstation running Windows XP Professional. The ProLiant servers were on a local Gigabit Ethernet network, connected to the test network via a Cisco Catalyst 2950 switch. The network runs IP and IPX as the only available protocols. Once the software was installed, I installed new programs, performed updates, and tampered with files to determine the ability of the change-detection products to actually detect changes. The changes were then viewed on the screens available with each company’s management application.
