File I/O benchmarking: IOzone
IOzone runs on Linux, Windows, and many Unixes, and can be used to generate a great variety of file operations to measure file I/O performance. Useful for testing vendors' performance claims, or simulating the impact of a new application on a storage system, both IOzone and Iometer are as indispensible to an IT shop as a measuring tape is to a tailor.
